Blue Demons Record Six Singles Victories at the Wildcat Invitational
EVANSTON, Ill. - The DePaul women's tennis team finished day two of the Wildcat Invitational with six singles victories on Saturday. Matches were played both inside at the Combe Indoor Tennis Center and outdoors at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center. Matches on Sunday will be played indoors with action beginning at 8:00 a.m. DePaul matched up against some of the best teams in the country with Anna Redecsi and Katarina Milinkovic each splitting their matches in the A flight. Redecsi started her day with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Angelica Jorgarsuria from Akron. In her second match, Anyna Morgina (South Carolina) took the first set 7-5, but Redecsi bounced back and took the second set 6-7. Tied at one set apiece, Morgina won the match with a 7-6 set three victory. Milinkovic began Saturday with a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Akron's Angelina Jogarsuria but rebounded with a 6-0, 7-6 win over Prang Pantusart from Akron. In the B Flight, Selma Salkovic and Gia McKnight also split their matches. Salkovic topped Pantusart 6-2, 6-0, but fell to Josefin Anderson from South Carolina 6-1, 7-5 in the quarterfinals. In the top half of the B Flight, McKnight battled with Oklahoma's Maria Kalashnikova but dropped the match 6-2, 1-6, 6-4. In her second match, McKnight took a three set match from Nicole Herzog from Michigan State 6-2, 2-6, 6-4. Kirsten Gambrell split her matches in the C Flight. The senior lost her first match in three sets, 6-0, 2-6, 6-4 to Wisconsin's Angela Chupa. Gambrell bounced back and advanced to the fifth place match with a dominating 6-4, 6-0 victory over Elena Ivanova from Michigan State. Representing DePaul in the D flight, Cali Gustafson fell to Oklahoma's Tara Eckel 6-4, 0-6, 6-1 but won her second match as April Kerr from Western Michigan defaulted.
