Milestone Weekend for Women's Tennis at Midwest Regional

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Junior Gergana Ganeva became the first DePaul player to ever reach the quarterfinals in singles play at the annual Midwest Regional Championships over the weekend at Michigan State’s Tennis Center.

Ganeva will try to reach the semifinals on Monday.

The Blue Demons also boasted the doubles tandem of Ganeva and sophomore Beatrix Csordas who reached the quarterfinals of the tournament, marking the first time the program has ever boasted a doubles team advancing that deep in the bracket. They were eventually eliminated by the region’s top-ranked duo from Northwestern.

"We played really well so far,” head coach Mark Ardizzone said. “Gergana has had some really big wins.  She has always been considered one of the most dangerous players in the region and she is really starting to prove it.  Gergana and Bea really were dominant in the doubles but unfortunately ran into the best team in the region.”
