Blue Demon Doubles Domination



EAST LANSING, Mich. The DePaul women’s tennis team completed day two of the Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Championships today at Michigan’s States Varsity Tennis Courts.  Three doubles pairs qualified for the main doubles draw, and for the first time in program history all three teams advance to the round of 16.

Dunja Antunovic and Kirsten Gambrell defeated Amy Blacketer and Fadzai Mawisire of Southern Illinois 8-5.  In the second round of bracket the play, the duo eliminated Illinois’ Marisa Lambroupoulos and Chelci Abajian. 

Anna Redecsi and Sandra Zmak collected two victories today making their record as a team 3-2.  The Blue Demon pair first beat Anna Volkova and Tanisha Welch of Youngstown State, 8-1, before knocking off Butler’s Molly Casperson and Becky Jenkins 8-2.

Competing on the other half of the bracket, Gia McKnight and Selma Salkovic competed against Amanda Dibbs and Julianna frey of Eastern Illinois, taking the victory 8-3.  The DePaul women advanced to the round of 16 after defeating Miami of Ohio’s Stephanie Danesis and Megan Martzof 8-5.

Doubles play continues tomorrow, in addition to the beginning of the singles main draw.  Six Blue Demons have qualified for the tournament, including Antunovic, Salkovic, Redecsi, Zmak, McKnight, and, making her regional championship debut, Katarina Milinkovic.
