Ganeva and Milinkovic Advance in Singles Play
KALAMAZOO, Mich. The DePaul women’s tennis team posted four singles wins and three doubles victories on Saturday during day two of the Western Michigan Super Challenge. Senior Gergana Ganeva and freshman Katarina Milinkovic both advanced to the final round of their singles draw at West Hills Athletic Club.
The Silver Draw semifinals saw Ganeva top Wichita State’s Lenore Lazaroiu 7-6 (4), 6-2, while Milinkovic edged WMU’s Priyanka Parekh, 6-7 (5), 6-2, 1-0 (9).
Milinkovic also competed in doubles action on Saturday as she and freshman Selma Salkovic continued their run through the main draw with an 8-4 victory over Florentina Hanisch and Lazaroiu of Wichita State. The championship match saw the Blue Demon pair come up short with an 8-4 loss to Wichita State’s Stephanie Dalmacio and Anna Egorova.
The Blue Demons picked up two additional singles victories during Saturday’s consolation play. Sophomore Kirsten Gambrell defeated Wichita State’s Torrie Browning, 7-5, 6-0, while Salkovic rolled past Lilian Nguyen of Yale, 6-1, 6-2.
Junior Dunja Antunovic participated in two doubles consolation wins. She joined Gambrell for an 8-5 victory over Emily Dudzik and Parekh of WMU, and teamed with Ganeva for an 8-1 rout over Hanisch and Lazaroiu of Wichita State.
The final day of the WMU Super Challenge opens on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. (CST).
