DePaul Women's Tennis: Names to Know, Two Places to Go

CHICAGO - After making DePaul tennis history at the ITA Midwest Regional on Oct. 26, the doubles pair of Anna Redecsi and Selma Salkovic will make history again when they step on the court at the ITA Women's National Indoor Championship on Thurs., Nov. 5.  The National Indoor tournament is hosted by Yale and features a 16-team doubles bracket.  The tournament runs Nov. 5-8 at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.

Redecsi and Salkovic become the first DePaul pair to compete at the National Indoor Championships and are scheduled to play the SMU pair of Francis Pavi and Marta Lesniak on Thursday at 8 a.m. (CST).    The Blue Demon duo faced Lesniak earlier this season when she was partnered with Aleksandra Malyarchikova.  This season at the Rice Tennis Classic Redecsi and Salkovic topped Lesniak and Malyarchikova 8-4 while the SMU pair won on their home court in 2008.

The winner of Thursday's match moves to the quarterfinals faces either the No. 1 seeded team, Natalie Pluskota and Caitlin Whoriskey from Tennessee or Lauren Magale and Pichittra Thongbach from Boise State on Friday at 8 a.m.

Redecsi and Salkovic have dominated the fall season and bring a 9-1 record to the ITA Indoor Championship.  The dynamic duo has won their last six matches while the pair's lone loss of the season came at the Rivera/ITA All-American Championship in October.    The DePaul pair has dropped three ranked pairs including No. 15 Kristy Frilling and Kali Krisik from Notre Dame.  Redecsi and Salkovic's win over the Frilling and Krisik sent the pair packing to West Haven, Connecticut and the Indoor Championship.

While Redecsi and Salkovic contend for a National Championship, the rest of the Blue Demons squad will play in their final fall tournament as DePaul heads to Kalamazoo, Michigan for the WMU Super Challenge at the West Hills Athletic Club Nov. 6-8.   DePaul faces teams from Louisville, Notre Dame, Miami (Ohio), Illinois, Indiana and tournament host Western Michigan.  Play begins on Friday morning with one round of doubles play at 10:30 a.m. and a round of singles in the evening.  Updated brackets will be available at www.
