Women's Tennis Returns to Action This Weekend
Nov. 7, 2013
CHICAGO -- Nearly a month following a strong performance at the ITA Midwest Regionals in Ann Arbor, Mich., the DePaul women's tennis team returns to the court this weekend (Nov. 8-10) for its final fall tournament of the 2013-14 season.
DePaul will participate in the Northwestern Fall Invitational this weekend; it will be the Blue Demons' second competition at Northwestern this fall. In their previous trip to Evanston (Oct. 4-6), Zaina Sufi and Rebeca Mitrea each won singles flights, while Sufi and Jarret Fisher advanced to a doubles final.
This weekend, DePaul's competition includes players from Northwestern, Yale and Oklahoma. Play is scheduled to begin Friday morning.
In DePaul's last tournament appearance this fall, junior Patricia Fargas became the first player in Blue Demons' history to advance to the semifinals of the ITA Midwest Regionals twice in her career. Fargas went 3-1 in the tournament before she fell in three sets to Ronit Yurovsky (Michigan), the No. 36 player in the nation.
The Northwestern Fall Invitational marks the final tournament of the fall season for DePaul. The Blue Demons will resume their 2013-14 season on Jan. 17, 2014 at the Northwestern Winter Classic. Dual play begins Jan. 25 against San Jose State in College Station, Texas.
