DePaul Falls in First Match of the IUPUI Hampton Inn Invitational

CHICAGO- The DePaul volleyball team lost its first match of the IUPUI Hampton Inn Invitational, dropping a 3-1 (25-23, 25-16, 20-25, 25-18) decision to Austin Peay. The Blue Demons fall to 0-3 on the season with their next match coming against the host, IUPUI. Senior Kate Letcher led the team with 11 kills while defensive specialist Katherine Knutson led the team with 15 digs. Austin Peay jumped out to an early 11-6 lead in the opening set but DePaul would fight to make it 23-20. The Blue Demons then put together three straight kills, one from freshman Chelsea Kirkpatrick and two from Lauren Blasi, and tied it back up at 23-23. Austin Peay would close the set with consecutive kills. In the second set DePaul continued to fight for every point but Austin Peay's .389 (17-3-36) attack percentages was too much. The Blue Demons would lose the second set 25-16. In the third set DePaul was able to control the tempo. The Blue Demons only allowed three ties in the set, the final one coming at 19-19. Letcher then lead the Blue Demons, with two kills, in a 6-1 run to close the set 25-20. The Blue Demons took an early 3-0 led in the fourth set. But Austin Peay fought back and tied it up at six. The Blue Demons and the Lady Govs would trade points all the way to an 11-11 tie. Austin Peay would then go on a 14-7 run to finish the match at 25-18.
