DePaul Falls to Wright State, 3-0

CHICAGO- The DePaul volleyball team stumbled against Wright State on Sunday morning as it suffered a 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-13). The Blue Demons fall to 0-5 on the season while Wright State improves to 2-4. Wright State set the tempo of the match with 46 kills and a .231 team attack percentage (46-19-117) while defensively holding DePaul to a .093 (26-17-97) hitting percentage. Wright State's, Ashley Heyman had a blistering .909 (10-0-11) attack percentage that helped the Raiders gain control of the match. The Blue Demons performed strong defensively, with 46 digs. Katherine Knutson protected the back court with 13 digs. The Blue Demons trailed in the first set until Knutson would serve for four straight points that would tie the set at 11. The Raiders then went on a 13-8 run. Knutson again was able to serve for four straight points to pull DePaul within one, 24-23, but the Raider's, Jessica Woods ended the match on one of her 15 kills. Kyndell Highland would begin serving for DePaul in the second set and would score four straight points that forced Wright State to use its first timeout. Out of the Raiders timeout Wright State won three points to tie it at five. DePaul and Wright State would then exchange points all the way to another tie at nine. The Raiders would then go on a 6-0 run that gave them the lead to the end of the set. The Blue Demons began the third set on a 6-2 run that forced the Raiders to use their first timeout. Out of the timeout Wright State was able to have a 21-4 run. The Blue Demons fought for every point but the match ended 25-13 in favor of the Raiders. DePaul closes out the IUPUI Hampton Inn Invitational at 2 p.m. playing against Western Michigan. Notes: Katherine Knutson has started the season with five straight double digits matches... six freshman, Chelsea Kirkpatrick, Genesis Reyes, Natalie Rizzo, Anastasiya Shutava, Allyson Rooks and Stephanie Rountree have played in the 2010 for the Blue Demons.
