DePaul Falls in Last Match of the IUPUI Hampton Inn Invitational

CHICAGO- The DePaul volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-14) loss to Western Michigan in its final match of the IUPUI Hampton Inn Invitational. The Blue Demons fall to 0-6 on the season while the Broncos improve to 6-1.
Western Michigan put up a strong team attack percentage of .359 (43-6-103). The Broncos powerful offensive limited the Blue Demons opportunities.
Rachel Aumann was able to have an attack percentage of .500 (6-0-12), however the team only managed a .079 (30-21-114) clip. Kate Letcher contributed seven kills and Katherine Knutson had 14 digs, her sixth consecutive game in double digits.
The first set started with the Blue Demons fighting with the Broncos for every point. With the score 9-7, in favor of the Broncos, Western Michigan began to pull away. The Blue Demons fought but with the score at 18-15, in favor of the Brocos, Western Michigan would close out the set on a 7-2 run.
The second set began with the Broncos going on a 7-2 run and DePaul having to take a quick timeout. Out of the time, Anastasiya Shutava provided a spark with a kill to the back left corner. The Broncos would continue to control the set and would finish it 25-12.
The Blue Demons opened the third set strong, winning the first two points. DePaul would continue to work for every point in the set. The set got away from the Blue Demons and the Broncos finished on 10-4 run to close the match at 25-14.
The Blue Demons host the DePaul Invitational next weekend and play Radford on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at McGrath Arena.
