DePaul Edged by Army 1-3 in DePaul Invitational

CHICAGO - DePaul was edged by Army, 1-3 (25-17, 20-25, 19-25, 20-25) on Friday night, dropping the three sets after taking the opening set.

DePaul jumped out to an early advantage, taking a 9-3 lead in the opening set behind consistent serving and tough defense above the net. Army climbed back into the first match, pulling within three at 16-13. The Blue Demons pushed back as they closed the first set on a 9-4 run.

Brittany Maxwell and Caitlyn Coffey led the Blue Demons with four and three kills respectively in the first set.

The second set began as more of the same for the host as Army hung around early, sitting within one point at 11-10. However, the visitor took its first lead of the evening midway through the second set, jumping ahead 15-14. Army retained the lead for the remainder of the set, evening the match count at one with a 25-20 triumph.

DePaul led early in the third set, 12-10. Maxwell delivered two blocks in the set for the Blue Demons. Army held a 18-17 advantage and finished the set on a 7-2 run to take a two match to one advantage at the end of the third. Army finished the final set 25-20.

DePaul volleyball is back in action at McGrath-Phillips Arena on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. against Milwaukee followed by a 7:30 p.m. matchup with Northwestern.
