DePaul Volleyball Struggles Against Indiana

OXFORD, Ohio - The DePaul volleyball team lost 3-1 (25-22, 25-15, 21-25, 25-20) to Indiana in its second match of the Miami best Western Invitational. DePaul falls to 1-10 and Indiana improves to 11-0. Kyndell Highland led the Blue Demons with an attack percentage of .310 (12-3-29) and freshman Chelsea Kirkpatrick contributed eight kills.
The first set was close all the way to the end. Sammy Geiger had two kills to go with seven assists in the first set and Highland had three of her 12 kills. There were 10 ties in the first set, the last one coming at 22-22. The Hoosiers would win the set 25-22, on two straight attack errors by the Blue Demons.
Indiana opened the second set with an 8-2 run, but the Blue Demons would get back into the match with a 6-2 run of their own. Rachel Aumann contributed two kills at the end of the run and brought DePaul within two, 8-10. The Blue Demons continued to struggle offensively and the Hoosiers took the score to 20-10. DePaul would trade points with Indiana, but the Hoosiers took the 25-15.
The Blue Demons played with more energy in the third set and capitalized on Indiana's .041 (14-12-49) attack percentage. Geiger had nine of her 30 assists in the third set and Anastasiya Shutava and Highland each had three kills. The Blue Demons took the third set, 25-21.
The fourth set had huge runs from each team. DePaul would win the first two points but Indiana went on a 20-6 run to push the score to 20-8. DePaul countered with a 12-3 run, that was fueled by great serves from Shutava and Geiger. The Blue Demons came up short and lost the third set 25-20.
The Blue Demons next match will be later today at 4 p.m. when they play Illinois State in their last match of the Miami Best Western Invitational.
