EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Vesela Zapryanova recorded her second double-double of the weekend as the DePaul volleyball team swept Georgia State, 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-20), on Saturday at the SIUE Cougar Invitational inside the Vadalabene Center.

After setting a program record for consecutive wins to start a season last night, the Blue Demons kept rolling in their first match of the day. DePaul improves to 11-0 overall with its seventh sweep of the year, while pushing its total win streak to 13 – only three wins from the all-time program record set in 1978. Georgia State falls to 5-8 with the loss.

Zapryanova, who recorded her sixth double-double of the season, led all players with 18 kills on an efficient .350 attack percentage (18-4-40) and added 11 digs in a standout performance. Sophomore right side Abbie Fleener continued her productive weekend as well with 11 kills on a .333 attack percentage (11-2-27).

On the defensive side, sophomore Tyler Graham contributed a season-high 21 digs – just one short of her career-high – as DePaul won the battle at the net, 7-2.

Setter Colleen Smith recorded 27 assists and split time with senior Laura Witt as the team outhit its 13th straight opponent dating back to 2012 (.256-.060).

In set one, the Blue Demon offense hummed along at a .395 clip as Zapryanova provided nine kills. Tied early, at 4-4, DePaul went on a 9-2 run, punctuated by a Natalie Rizzo block, to force a GSU timeout. Later on, leading 21-13, Zapryanova took over with three of the Blue Demons’ last four kills to clinch the 25-13 set win.

In set two, DePaul’s efficiency slipped to .000 as Fleener led the team with four kills. The Blue Demons still managed to pull out a close win, 25-21, by holding the Panthers to a -.081 hitting percentage. The set was tied as late as 20-20 before a Callie Huebener kill and block assist, along with an Allyson Rooks ace, helped force set point. A GSU error then put DePaul up 2-0 heading into intermission.

Zapryanova was dominant again in the matches’ final frame, tallying seven kills on a .385 hitting percentage as the Blue Demons recovered to hit .382 and win the match, 25-20.

Looking to win a fourth tournament championship of the season, DePaul will be back on the court for a 4:30 p.m. CT matchup with Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
