CHICAGO - Allyson Rooks tallied her 1,000th career dig as DePaul volleyball dropped a 3-0 decision to visiting Villanova on Sunday at McGrath-Phillips Arena.

The senior libero, who finished with a match-high 11 digs, achieved the milestone in the second set and became the first DePaul student-athlete to join the 1,000-dig club since Sarah Cullen in 2009. Overall, the Zeeland, Mich.-native tallied an impressive 49 digs (4.45 per set) for the weekend.

Offensively, DePaul was unable to get much going against an effective Villanova serve that produced 10 aces. The Blue Demons were paced by six kill-efforts by Vesela Zapryanova and senior Natalie Rizzo, who hit .750 on her eight attempts.

Villanova's Lauren Carpenter landed a match-high 13 kills in helping the Wildcats improve to 12-10 and 4-5 in BIG EAST action. The Blue Demons dropped to 15-7 overall with a fourth straight loss and are now 1-7 in the conference.

DePaul was effective on the block again, beating Villanova 9-5 after out-blocking the nation's seventh-ranked front line, Creighton, yesterday.

Early in the first set the Blue Demons led 9-7 before a nine point Wildcat rally completely reversed the momentum of the frame. DePaul got back to within four points on a service error, but Villanova was able to close the door on a 25-19 win on a Claire Crutchfield kill.

It was another close contest, 16-13, in the second set when a seven point swing by the Wildcats enabled them to run away with a 25-16 decision going into the locker room.

DePaul battled hard in the third set, hitting a match-high .316 and getting three service aces from Rizzo. The Wildcats continued to cruise, however, connecting at a .452 (18-4-31) clip to escape another early DePaul advantage with a 25-21 decision.

The Blue Demons return to action next weekend on the road, battling Xavier in Cincinnati, Ohio for the first time as a BIG EAST opponent. Match time is set for 6:00 p.m. CT.
