Blue Demons Drop BIG EAST Contest to Villanova

CHICAGO - The DePaul volleyball team came up short to Villanova on Friday afternoon, 3-0 (20-25, 20-25, 16-25). This makes the Blue Demons' season record (8-20, 2-14 BIG EAST).

Villanova took the opening set, which featured five scoring ties, 25-20 Friday afternoon.

Locked at 13 midway through the second set, the Wildcats pulled ahead 20-17, prompting a DePaul timeout. The two team battled back and forth throughout the set exchanging five lead changes. However, out of the timeout the visitors closed the second set to the tune of 25-20, pulling ahead in the game two sets to zero.

The Blue Demons called a timeout early in the third set, trailing 7-3. DePaul would work back into the set at 23-16, but the visitor would hold on, taking the final set 25-16.

Brittany Maxwell and Rachel Breault led the Blue Demons with 10 and seven kills, respectively. Kelsey Horvath contributed a team high 20 assists while Haley Bueser led DePaul with 15 digs.

DePaul volleyball is back in action this Sunday, Nov. 12 at 1 p.m. at McGrath-Phillips Arena. The Blue Demons will match-up with Georgetown and Marquette in their remaining two BIG EAST contests. Fans can visit the DePaul volleyball schedule page for all live coverage, links and more.
