DePaul Wraps Up With Rutgers

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The DePaul volleyball team dropped its last BIG EAST Conference match to Rutgers, 3-1 (25-20, 25-15, 19-25, 25-12). The Blue Demons fall to 4-26 (1-13, BIG EAST) while, the Scarlet Knights improve to 11-17 (3-10, BIG EAST).
DePaul started off the first set, battling back and forth with Rutgers. When the score was 10-9, in favor of Rutgers, the Scarlet Knights went on a 9-2 run. The Blue Demons pushed back but the cushion Rutgers built proved to be too much. The Scarlet Knights won the set 25-20.
In the second set, the Blue Demons fought to an early 6-6 tie, but Rutgers would then go on a 9-1 run that was fueled by three strong kills. Blasi then had a powerful kill that was the first of three quick points for the Blue Demons. DePaul continued to apply pressure but only managed to trade points with the Scarlet Knights. Rutgers closed the set 25-15.
After the intermission, DePaul and Rutgers traded points all the way to a tie at 13. The Blue Demons then went on an 8-2 run that was sparked by a Rutgers’ service error and an ace from senior Kate Letcher. DePaul and Rutgers finished the set going point for point, allowing the Blue Demons to close the set at 25-19.
The Blue Demons were unable to find an offensive rhythm in the fourth set, while the Scarlet Knights accumulated a .457 (18-2-35) team attack percentage. Rachel Aumann tallied four of her nine kills in the fourth set. Rutgers won the set 25-12.
The DePaul Volleyball team finished the season with a 4-26 overall record and a 1-13 record in the BIG EAST Conference matches.
Notes: Katherine Knutson recorded double-digit digs in 24 matches... recorded 11 digs in the match against Rutgers... Freshman Chelsea Kirkpatrick was in double-digit kills 12 times this season... Lauren Blasi led the Blue Demons offensively with a season-high .571 (9-1-14) attack percentage in the match against Rutgers.
