SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – DePaul got double figure kill totals from four different attackers and a second straight double-double from Vesela Zapryanova, but fell 3-1 (20-25, 25-23, 27-25, 25-14) to hosting Seton Hall on Sunday at Walsh Gymnasium.

Sophomore Abbie Fleener ripped 17 kills for a match-high, while Vesela Zapryanova, Natalie Rizzo and Randi Leath each added 10 kills in a match that was brutally close until the deciding fourth frame.

Zapryanova added 14 digs in her ninth double-double effort of the season as DePaul dropped to 16-12 and 2-12 in the BIG EAST. Seton Hall improved to 15-15 and 6-9 in conference play with the victory.

Senior Allyson Rooks and sophomore Colleen Smith also posted match-highs with 25 digs and 46 assists, respectively.

The Blue Demons hit .317 (18-5-41) in the first set en route to a 25-20 victory, getting five kills from Leath. DePaul jumped out to a 9-4 lead early and continued to lead, at 18-10, on a kill by Leath. Up 23-19, the Blue Demons got consecutive kills by Fleener and Rizzo to go in front 1-0 in the match.

Set two came down to the wire, as Fleener ripped five kills to pace the Blue Demons in a 25-23 setback. It was tight early, as the teams were tied 6-6 on a block assist by Anastasiya Shutava and Rizzo. DePaul got within one late, 19-18, on a Rizzo bullet and then again at 24-23 after a Leath kill. A Zapryanova service error turned set point over to Seton Hall, however, and the match was tied heading into the break.

The third set proved a critical turning point in the match as Seton Hall escaped with a 27-25 victory. DePaul led as late as 17-15 after a Leath kill, but the Pirates answered with four straight points to reclaim the lead for good. Kills by Fleener tied the frame at 24 all and again at 25-25, but Seton Hall responded with back-to-back points to go up 2-1.

After going up 10-8 early in set four, the Pirates were able to clinch the win with a convincing 25-14 decision.

DePaul returns to action on Friday, Nov. 22 at McGrath-Phillips Arena hosting Butler for the first time as a conference opponent. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. CT.
