Volleyball Announces 2003 Schedule
CHICAGO – DePaul’s head volleyball coach, Dawn Dockstader, has announced the regular season schedule for the upcoming 2003 season. The Blue Demons will play 14 of their 30 games at the DePaul Athletic Center, seven of which are in September. The new season will also feature the Blue Demon Invitational again.
“We’re really excited about our schedule and I expect us to produce a solid year,” says Dockstader. “It’s nice to know we’ll be playing almost half of our games at home in front of our fans.”
Dockstader and her team open up the season at the Morehead State Invitational at Morehead, Kentucky on August 29-30. The Demons will face Furman, IUPUI and Morehead State, playing each team once.
The Demons will then head down to Champaign for the University of Illinois Classic. They will play the Fighting Illini on Friday, September 5 and will either face Wake Forest or Evansville in the championship or consolation match on Saturday.
On September 9, the Blue Demons will host their first home match against UW-Milwaukee. DePaul faced the Panthers in their spring season where they split games.
After their home opener, they will compete in the Drake University Tournament at Des Moines, Iowa where they’ll match up against Louisiana Tech, Southeast Missouri State, and Drake over the weekend of September 12-13.
After the tournament, UIC will take a trip up town to face the Blue Demons at the DePaul Athletic Center on September 16. Last season, the Blue Demons beat the Flames in a five-game nailbiter.
September 19-20 will mark the Blue Demon Invitational which will host DePaul, Tennessee, IUPUI and Miami, Ohio.
“Once again we’ll have a strong field of teams to play at our invite. It should be a competitive weekend,” says Dockstader.
Conference play will not begin until October 3 when the Demons take a road trip first to Louisville and then to Cincinnati.
October 25 will be Alumni Night at the DePaul Athletic Center. The Demons will host Memphis and all volleyball alumni will be honored.
DePaul wraps up their regular season with three home games. On November 7, they host UAB and the following day they host South Florida. The Demons then host Marquette on November 14, Senior Night. Seniors Meg Griffin, Lara Marks, and Janet Cotter will all be honored.
The conference tournament will be held at Tulane this year in New Orleans, Louisiana.
