CHICAGO - Come join a new era of DePaul volleyball as head coach Nadia Edwards and her staff, who together boast nearly 30 years combined experience coaching at the Division I level, as they host an All Skills Camp on July 10-11, as well as Specialized Skill Camps on July 12 and 13. Members of the 2010 Blue Demon team will be in attendance to direct drills and talk about the experience of being an elite Division I volleyball student-athlete in the BIG EAST Conference.
The All Skills Camp will explore every part of the game and its six core skills (serving, setting, hitting, blocking, passing and defense) under the direction of DePaul volleyball staff and current student-athletes. In addition to on-court training, campers will get the chance to participate in volleyball educational and question/answer sessions. The goal of this camp is to improve a player's overall game, and compete with other like-skilled individuals. The two-day camp runs on July 10-11, from 8:30 a.m. (CST) to 7:30 p.m. at McGrath Arena. Cost of the camp is $185 and includes a camp t-shirt, as well as lunch and dinner on both days.
The Specialized Skills Camp is open to all girls of high school age and from all skill ranges. The camp offers the opportunity for campers to focus on the skill most related to their position. The three breakdowns include hitting and blocking, passing and defense, and setting. Focus on one skill, or sign up for an additional session to focus on another skill set. Campers can sign up for either the July 12 or the July 13 camp for $85 or participate on both dates for $150. A camp t-shirt and lunch is included. Located in McGrath Arena, the camp is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. and conclude at 4:30 p.m.
Head Coach Nadia Edwards
Nadia Edwards, a product of the Penn State volleyball dynasty, took over the helm of the Blue Demon program in February of 2010. With the Nittany Lions, she made four-straight NCAA Championship Final Four appearances, including a national title in 1999, before competing professionally for three years. Since then, she has mentored winning programs at both Ohio and Ohio State from the sidelines. Under her tutelage, Edwards' teams have advanced to the NCAA Tournament in four of her five seasons as a coach.
Assistant Coach Todd Raasch
Todd Raasch joined the Blue Demon staff in the spring of 2010, and brings with him more than 20 years experience as a teacher and mentor of the game. Prior to being named the assistant coach at DePaul, Raasch was top assistant at Boston College for the 2009 campaign after spending three seasons with Florida Atlantic. He spent six seasons with the University of Nebraska-Kearney where he led the Antelopes to a Sweet 16 appearance in the Division II NCAA Tournament in 1994, followed by an Elite 8 showing in 1996. Between those two seasons, Raasch worked with Division I powerhouse Nebraska. That season, the Huskers won the National Championship by defeating Texas 3-1.
Assistant Coach Marie Zidek
Marie Zidek joined the Blue Demon staff in spring of 2010, and plays an intricate role in player development, particularly with the setters and liberos. Zidek has been mentored by some of the best teachers in the game, including current Beaver head coach, Terry Liskevych, who led the U.S. Women's National Team to a bronze medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. On the club circuit Zidek spent nearly a decade as both a player and a coach with the Celtic Force, a club based in Palos Heights, Ill.
