CHICAGO – DePaul volleyball coach Nadia Edwards announced today the addition of Kelsey Bowler to the program. The Naperville native returns to the Chicagoland area as a transfer after playing her first two collegiate seasons at Ohio State.
“I am extremely excited to welcome Kelsey Bowler to the Blue Demon family,” said Edwards. “I have had the pleasure to work with Kelsey in the past and know what she is capable of achieving. She has competed at a high level in the Big Ten Conference and will bring a wealth of experience, skill set and leadership to the group.”
As an assistant coach at Ohio State, Edwards recruited and then coached Bowler for a season before taking over the DePaul program in February 2010.
Bowler, a 5-6 libero/defensive specialist, totaled 40 matches in her two seasons at Ohio State. She totaled 41 digs in 23 matches as a freshman in 2009 followed by 22 digs in 17 matches in 2010. Bowler also was a two-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
At Naperville North High School, she played four seasons and was a two-time team captain. The Huskies won four straight regional titles while Bowler earned All-Conference honors and was a four-time All-Academic honoree.
On the club circuit, Bowler played for Sports Performance with current Blue Demon Natalie Rizzo. Bowler helped Sports Performance to third place finishes at the 2004 and 2005 AAU Championships and a second-place finish at the 2007 Club National Championships.
The Blue Demons open practice in early August prior to opening the 2011 campaign at the UniWyo Wyoming Invite with matches against Oregon State, South Dakota, Gonzaga and Wyoming on Aug. 26-27. DePaul hosts the DePaul Invitational at McGrath-Phillips Arena on Sept. 16-17. The Blue Demons welcome Kansas, San Diego State and Valparaiso to Lincoln Park for the weekend tournament.
