Volleyball Announces 2012 Slate
June 19, 2012
CHICAGO - In preparation for the fall season, DePaul volleyball head coach Nadia Edwards has announced her team's schedule for the upcoming 2012 season.
After making strides in 2011, the Blue Demons once again face a challenging slate that includes four tournaments--including their own DePaul Invitational--and tough opponents in both nonconference and BIG EAST Conference action.
DePaul opens its season with its host invitational on August 24-25 when it welcomes New Orleans, Eastern Illinois, Indiana State, and Butler to McGrath-Phillips Arena for the five-team invite.
Following opening weekend, the Blue Demons travel to Martin, Tenn., where they face off against Wright State, Troy, and host UT Martin. After the trip south, DePaul returns to the Chicago area first for the Chicagoland Classic and then for the Loyola Rambler Challenge.
The Chicagoland Classic--taking place at Mother McCauley High School--pits the Blue Demons against national powerhouse Penn State before DePaul takes on cross-town foe UIC and west coast squad Oregon State.
On September 14-15, the Blue Demons once again compete in the Chicago area as they head over to Loyola for the Rambler Challenge. DePaul faces off against South Carolina Upstate that Friday and competes in a doubleheader against Chicago State and the tournament host on Saturday.
The Rambler Challenge marks the conclusion of the Blue Demons' nonconference schedule as they begin their 15-game BIG EAST schedule on September 21 when they travel to Louisville. DePaul stays on the road to play Cincinnati two days later.
The following weekend, the Blue Demons return to McGrath-Phillips Arena for the first time in over a month when they welcome Syracuse on September 29 and Marquette on September 30. DePaul stays home for the next two weekends when it hosts St. John's, Connecticut, and Notre Dame.
On October 19, the volleyball squad heads to Villanova and then Georgetown on October 21. DePaul returns to Lincoln Park the next weekend for a Friday matchup against USF and a Sunday matinee against Pittsburgh.
On November 3, the Blue Demons head out on their final road trip when they go into New Jersey for a match against Rutgers before heading to Seton Hall and St. John's.
November 11 marks DePaul's last regular season match and senior day as Rutgers comes to town ahead of the BIG EAST Conference Tournament.
The Blue Demons seek to improve upon their 2011 season this year under Edwards, who enters her third season at the helm. A talented crop of newcomers along with several returning starters look to make that happen.
