CHICAGO - Entering her fourth year at the helm, DePaul volleyball head coach Nadia Edwards announced the 2013 Blue Demon schedule on Thursday.

"I am very excited about the 2013 campaign ahead of us," said Edwards, who has helped the Blue Demons increase their win total in each of her first three years on campus. "We have a veteran group returning who have put in a tremendous amount of work during the off-season in preparation for the fall and are ready for their breakthrough moment. We also have six seniors who will have a final opportunity make their mark on this program."

The slate features 12 home dates, including four in-season tournaments starting with the annual DePaul Invitational at McGrath-Phillips Arena from August 30-31. That tournament will feature teams from McNeese State, Chicago State and Providence.

The Blue Demons will be facing McNeese St. for the first time in program history, while looking to improve upon a 14-0 all-time record against Chicago St. In Providence, the Blue Demons will meet a conference opponent earlier than usual.

After its home tourney, the Blue Demons will dive into three more non-conference tournaments in Iowa, South Carolina and Illinois.

From September 6-7, DePaul will participate in the Drake Invitational with South Dakota State, Eastern Illinois and the hosts. DePaul holds a 5-0 record all-time against Drake and will be meeting SDSU for the first time in program history. Against the Panthers, the Blue Demons will be looking to make up ground in the series (EIU leads, 17-5).

The following weekend, Sept. 13-14, will see the Blue Demons travel to The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. to take on opponents from Charleston Southern, Radford and the hosting Bulldogs.

It will be the first meeting between The Citadel and DePaul with limited history between all four teams at the tournament. DePaul leads the all-time series against Charleston Southern, 1-0, with the only meeting coming all the way back in 1998. Against Radford, the series is even 1-1 after the last meeting in 2010.

DePaul will then wrap up its tournament schedule Sept. 20-21 in Edwardsville, Ill. at SIU-Edwardsville, facing the hosts as well as Georgia State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

The Blue Demons hold 1-0 series leads against Georgia State and SIU-Edwardsville and will meet Arkansas-Pine Bluff for the first time ever at the tournament.

Remaining in their home state, the Blue Demons will take on local rival UIC Sept. 25 in Chicago before returning to McGrath-Phillips Arena for the first time since Aug. 31 to begin conference play against BIG EAST foe Marquette on Sept. 28 at 7:00 p.m. CT.

"Our goal for preseason is to start off strong and build a solid foundation for success as we prepare for the Big East Conference," said Edwards, who returns all but one starter from the 2012 roster. "I am really looking forward to playing in the new BIG East Conference. With the addition of the double round robin format, we will be able to compete against all of our BIG EAST Conference opponents in McGrath-Phillips Arena. I am also pleased to welcome the new members and excited for the high level of competition and rivalries that our new league will bring forth."

October begins with more league play and a road trip to the East Coast as DePaul takes on Villanova and Georgetown from October 4-5.

Next, the Blue Demons meet Creighton as a conference opponent for the first time, traveling to Omaha, Neb. on Oct. 11 to face the Bluejays for just the second time in program history. DePaul holds the edge in the series, winning the first match between the two programs, 3-0, back in 2001.

Green Bay visits McGrath-Phillips Arena for a non-conference interlude Oct. 15 before the Blue Demons continue BIG EAST play on Oct. 19 at Marquette.

DePaul then gets its next three conference opponents at home, playing Georgetown, Creighton and Villanova in a triple-match weekend Oct. 25-27. The Blue Demons netted a conference win at Villanova last season, marking the first victory for DePaul against the Wildcats.

November begins with two more firsts, as the Blue Demons head to Xavier and Butler to meet those programs as BIG EAST opposition for the initial time during the first two days of the month.

Butler holds a slim 8-7 margin in the all-time series between the two schools, but DePaul will be looking for revenge after dropping a 3-2 heartbreaker at home against the Bulldogs last August. Xavier and DePaul will be facing each other for just the 12th time overall and for the first time since 2009 (Xavier leads the series, 7-4).

St. John's and Seton Hall visit Chicago next from Nov. 8-10 before DePaul turns around to face both on the road the following weekend (Nov. 16-17).

The regular season schedule then wraps up with home matches against conference newcomers Butler and Xavier on Nov. 22 and Nov. 23.

The BIG EAST Conference Tournament is scheduled to kick-off the following week in Omaha, Neb. hosted by Creighton University from Nov. 29-30 with its format and match times to be announced.
