CHICAGO, Ill. - DePaul volleyball will unofficially kick off its 2012 season on Sunday, August 19 at 3 p.m. when it hosts the Blue Demon Scrimmage in McGrath-Phillips Arena.

Open and free to all DePaul fans, the exhibition will feature the Blue Demon squad in a full intrasquad match.

Blue Demon fans will get the chance to see seven newcomers in action for the first time, as head coach Nadia Edwards welcomes a five-member freshman class and two incoming transfers to bolster the 2012 roster.

Among the newcomers for DePaul are freshmen Abbie Fleener, Tyler Graham, Aubree Hord, Callie Huebener and Randi Leath. The Blue Demons also add two transfer players, sophomore Laura Witt (UT-San Antonio) and junior Vesela Zapryanova (Auburn).

Leading returnees include sophomore outside hitter Amy Lanski, who led the 2011 club with 272 kills and two other consistent offensive options in junior Natalie Rizzo (142 kills) and senior Rachel Aumann (175 kills). Rizzo, a middle blocker, also paced the Blue Demons at the net last season with 18 block solos and 70 block assists.

Following the scrimmage, the Blue Demons will remain home August 24-25 to kick off the regular season with the DePaul Invitational. The four-team tournament will feature six matches over a two-day span, including DePaul's season opener on Friday at 7 p.m. against Eastern Illinois.
