CHICAGO- Before the DePaul volleyball team begins their 2010 season, they will be hosting an intersquad scrimmage Sunday at 3 p.m. at McGrath Arena. The scrimmage is an opportunity for fans to get a glance at the team before the season starts.

The Blue Demons finished their 2009 season with a record of 6-23. Last season provided valuable experience for the DePaul volleyball team that returns eight players from a year ago.

The scrimmage is the first opportunity for the Blue Demons to show how their hard work has paid off. It will also provide new head coach Nadia Edwards with an opportunity to simulate a match for five incoming freshman.

Edwards comes to DePaul after being an assistant coach at Ohio State and Ohio University. Prior Edwards lettered four years in volleyball at Penn State. Her team compiled a 71-2 record and won a national championship in 1999 while earning national runner-up finishes in 1997 and 1998.

Senior setter Christy Landschoot enters the season with 2,433 career assists, which ranks fifth in DePaul's all-time record book. The senior averaged 8.25 assists per game last season while splitting time with Sammy Geiger. Geiger averaged 8.27 assists as a freshman.

Junior right side Lauren Blasi is DePaul's leading offensive returner. Blasi notched 204 kills, added a team-best 48 blocks and was third with 231.5 points.

The Blue Demons begin their season at 7:30 p.m., Aug. 27 against UIC in the Chicagoland Classic at McGrath Arena.
