Volleyball to Hold Blue Demon Scrimmage on Sunday
Aug. 17, 2011
In preparation for the start of its 2011 campaign, the DePaul women’s volleyball team will hold the Blue Demon Scrimmage this Sunday, August 21st at 3 p.m. in the McGrath Arena. The exhibition will pit the Blue Demon players in an intersquad match to experience a game-like atmosphere before they open the regular season. The scrimmage will be open to fans looking to see the Blue Demons in action for the first time this season. Among the newcomers for DePaul are freshmen Katie Gamsky, Amy Lanski, and Mariah Truscinski. Also new to the Blue Demons squad is junior libero Kelsey Bowler, the Naperville, Ill. native who transferred from Ohio State. DePaul also returns several key members of last year’s group, including senior Lauren Blasi (101 kills), junior Rachel Aumann (214 kills, 83 blocks), and sophomores Anastasiya Shutava (110 kills) and Genesis Reyes (142 digs). The Blue Demon Scrimmage comes just before head coach Nadia Edwards takes her young team to Laramie, Wyo., to open its regular season at the UniWyo Wyoming Invite on August 26th and 27th. There, the Blue Demons will face off against Oregon State, South Dakota, Gonzaga, and Wyoming. The following weekend, September 2nd and 3rd, DePaul will compete in the Chicagoland Challenge hosted by UIC.
