Intersquad Scrimmage a Success

Blue Demon volleyball fans got their first look at the 2003 squad Tuesday evening at the DePaul Athletic Center.  The team hosted its first intersquad scrimmage in front of over 100 enthusiastic fans. The players switched teams on and off during the five game match.

“This scrimmage served the purpose that I wanted it too,” Head Coach Dawn Dockstader said.  “The players had a chance to work out their first game jitters. The officials called some overlaps and net calls that the players needed to have called so they can adjust before the first match on Friday.

“Defensively everyone played well and I was impressed.  Offensively they need to be more aggressive and get more balls on the wood, and it starts with serve receive, which needs to be much better,” Dockstader added.

The scrimmage was an opportunity for the freshman class to wear the Blue Demon uniform for the first time.  Deane Gibson and Morgan Ingersoll wore the jersey well and impressed the entire coaching staff.

The team travels to Morehead, Kentucky on Friday to compete in the Morehead State Invitational.  “We are excited to see new faces on the other side of the net.  They have played one another; now they want some new, fresh competition,” Dockstader said.

The Blue Demons will play Furman University on Friday at 3:30 at the Morehead State Invitational.
