DePaul Wins in Three
Morehead, KY- The Blue Demons opened their season Friday afternoon, at the Morehead Invitational with an impressive shutout of Furman University in three games (30-20, 32-25, 30-23). Defensively the Blue Demons were unstoppable recording 13 team blocks, six of which were laid down by single players. Junior, Janet Goreham had two single blocks and three block assists during the match. Junior, Amie West also had four block assists. The Blue Demons were able to hold Furman to a .071 hitting percentage throughout the match; while the Blue Demons hit .236 for the match. Junior, Janet Goreham led the team with a .389 hitting percentage. "We are off to a great start," Head Coach Dawn Dockstader said. "The difference in this match-up was the defensive. Our players had 13 team blocks and 52 digs. They all hustled and showed a lot of heart on the court. We wanted to start the season off with a win, and we did. "The distinction that I saw in this game as opposed the intersqad scrimmage was the serve reception," Dockstader added. The Blue Demons as a team carried a 2.2 service reception. The Blue Demons will hit the floor tomorrow, to face IUPUI at 9:00 a.m. CST Saturday, August 30, and then face Morehead State at 6:00 p.m. CST later in the evening.
