Sports Blog: Kate Letcher Checks in with DePaul Volleyball Fans
Aug. 30, 2010
Hey everyone! This past weekend the team took part in and hosted the Chicagoland Classic in McGrath Arena. Although we struggled to execute on our side of the net and played nowhere near to what we are capable of, we took a lot of positives away from the weekend. As a team, we have a renewed sense of focus heading into this week of practice and gearing up for the tournament we will be participating in at IUPUI (Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis) this next weekend. Nevertheless, being a part of the Chicagoland Classic and having such awesome volleyball played in our home gym was amazing. It was cool to see three other teams from schools that are all within a couple of miles from each other compete for the right to say that they are the best volleyball team in the Chicagoland area. Being in the Big East Conference, it was fun to watch and compete against University of Illinois at Chicago and Loyola University that are both in the Horizon League. It was also interesting to see how Northwestern, a member of the Big Ten Conference, differed in their style of play. Competing against your in-town rivals always makes the game a bit more personal. Chelsea Kirkpatrick, one of our freshmen outside hitters earned all-tournament honors and played two impressive matches this weekend. It has been awesome playing with so many new members on the team. Seeing the confidence and skill developing in our new players seems to happen by the day! Playing in competitive matches with the support of our family and fans has already helped us come even more together as a team. Knowing the levels of success we will be able to achieve and hopefully surpass this season is definitely a driving force for all of us to work extremely hard. It's even more exciting knowing that this season is the beginning of something awesome! DePaul Volleyball - New Blue!
