DePaul Volleyball Sweeps Creighton 3-0
DeKalb, Ill. - DePaul's volleyball team defeated Creighton 30-25, 30-23, 30-27 in its season opener of the Northern Illinois Invitational Friday evening.
DePaul jumped on Creighton early in the first game and never let up winning 30-25. The Blue Demons didn't trail once in the game. Coach Dawn Dockstader said, "I thought we hit real well tonight especially in the first game."
The second game was more of the same as the Blue Demons rolled to a 30-23 victory. DePaul maintained a seven point lead throughout the game.
Creighton made life difficult for DePaul in the third game taking a 25-27 lead late in the game. However, the Blue Demons rallied to score the final five points behind the strong serving of junior Katie Engel to win the game 30-27. "I thought we showed great poise tonight especially coming back and scoring the final five points in the third game," said Dockstader. "It's always nice to get that first victory under your belt. Everyone played real well tonight and it was a great team effort."
Senior Stephanie Bishop led the Blue Demons with 16 kills and eight digs while Engel added 14 kills to go along with 15 digs. Senior Kara Jakusz tallied 40 assists.
DePaul is in action Saturday at 2:30 p.m. against Texas-San Antonio followed by the final game of the tournament at 8:00 p.m. against host Northern Illinois.
