MOREHEAD, Ky. - The DePaul Blue Demons (1-2) fell to the Morehead State Eagles (3-0) in four games (17-30, 18-20, 30-23, 18-30), in the final match of the Morehead Invitational Saturday night. The match was played in front of 200 fans. DePaul finished third in the tournament behind Morehead and IUPUI, Furman took forth place.
“Another frustrating loss,” Head Coach Dawn Dockstader said. “This weekend my staff and I were able to pin point the skills the players need to work on so we are prepared for the Illini Classic. We will work hard this week so we come out winners in
The Blue Demons started out slow loosing the first two games 17-30 and 18-20.
They fired back in the third game winning 30-23. The team had 14 kills and recorded a hitting percentage of .256. The squad also had six total team blocks with senior Lara Marks recording the lone single block of the game.
The Blue Demons lost their fire in the forth game, losing 18-30.
The Blue Demons put up big blocking numbers this weekend, as a team they had 33 blocks and were averaging 11 blocks per game. “As a team they are putting up great blocking numbers but they are not backing it up with defense. If we can back up our blocks then we will be okay and win more rallies, consequently we will win more matches.
"My team played exceptional against Furman, I am just disappointed that they did not come out on Saturday with the same force that they did on Friday. We need to be intense to win and we lacked that on Saturday," Dockstader added.
Senior Lara Marks was one player that was consistent all weekend. She was recognized by the other coaches by being named to the All-Tournament Team. Marks put up a .308 hitting percentage, three solo blocks and assisted on 13 others.
