Blue Demons Drop Match to Wichita State
DENVER -- The DePaul volleyball team opened the Denver Volleyball Invitational with a 3-0 (30-19, 30-19, 30-21) loss to Wichita State, Friday at Hamilton Gym. The Blue Demons are 0-3 in the their young season, while the Shockers improve to 2-2. DePaul was unable find its offense, hitting just .128 for the match; while the Shockers hit a sizzling .469, knocking down 52 kills. Wichita State's Emily Stockman paced the floor with 18 kills for a .625 attack percentage. DePaul registered 36 kills with freshman Charla Drabant leading the squad 14 kills and a .233 hitting percentage. The Shockers stunned DePaul in the first two games, winning both sets 30-19. Wichita State hit a match-high .583 with 17 kills in game one and recorded 16 kills in the second set. WSU took an early led in both games and never allowed the Blue Demons closer than two points. Stockman led the floor in both games, tallying five kills in each set. Drabant matched Stockman's output in game two, while recording three kills in game one. The Blue Demons kept the third set close; however tied at eight, Wichita State scored seven unanswered points to pull the game and match out of reach. DePaul got progressively better throughout the match, knocking down just nine kills in the first game, 13 in game two and registered 14 kills and a match-high .242 in the final set. The Blue Demons resume play on Saturday, taking on Denver at 1 p.m. (CST) and close out the tournament with a 6 p.m. game with Auburn.
