Box Score

DAVIDSON, NC- The Blue Demons dominated the net during its first match of the Mizuno Wildcat Classic, downing Florida Atlantic, 3-0 (30-19, 30-23, 30-16).   DePaul blocked 9.0 balls and hit an impressive .261 and improved to 2-0 on the season, while Florida Atlantic starts its season 0-1.

“It was nice to get our first win on the road,” Head Coach Dawn Dockstader said.  “Amy Holmes and Janet Gorham carried us through games one and two before the team was able to completely take control of the match in game three.”

The senior duo of Holmes and Goreham lit up the floor, combining for 21 kills, no errors, a .488 attack percentage and seven total blocks.

Holmes led the Blue Demons in game one with five kills and a blistering .417 hitting percentage.  The Blue Demon defense held Florida Atlantic to a .044 hitting percentage and only 19 points.

Florida Atlantic tied game two at five, but that was as close as it would get as the Blue Demons went on a 6-2 run to make the score 12-7.  Holmes closed out the game with a kill from setter Amie West.  West fed 35 assists and a match high 15 in game three.

The Blue Demons closed out the match in game three, holding Florida to 16 points.

“I was very impressed by Janet Goreham’s play both on offense and defense.  By the third game Florida Atlantic was triple blocking her and she still got the ball on the wood,” Dockstader said.

Goreham finished the match with 11 kills, 18 digs and six total blocks.

For the second time this week the Blue Demons held their opponent under .100 hitting percentage.  DePaul held Florida Atlantic to .045 hitting while earlier in the week they held Chicago State to .061.
