Zapryanova Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

NEW YORK - DePaul outside hitter Vesela Zapryanova notched her third career BIG EAST Honor Roll nod on Monday after helping the Blue Demons open the season with three straight wins for the first time since 2004.
Champions of the DePaul Invitational, the Blue Demons were victorious in all three of their weekend matches, defeating McNeese State, Chicago State and Providence by 3-0 scores.
A preseason All-BIG EAST selection, Zapryanova led the team in attempts (67) and kills per set (3.67), while never hitting below .364.
On Saturday, the Sofia, Bulgaria-native set a career-record with a .522 attack percentage (14-2-23) and tied a career-mark with four aces against McNeese State. Her seven service aces over the weekend were the most in the conference.
Not just an offensive presence, Zapryanova put together her 10th career double-double with 14 kills and 16 digs against McNeese State. Earlier on Saturday, she narrowly missed out on another double-double (11 kills, nine digs) while leading DePaul to its 15th straight win over Chicago State.
On Friday, she posted eight kills, eight digs and connected at a .364 clip in the season opener versus Providence.
Next up for DePaul is the Drake Invitational in Des Moines, Ia. The Blue Demons open up the weekend on Friday, Sept. 6 facing the hosting Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m.
