Engel MVP, Bishop all-tournament at Butler
Indianapolis - By virtue of leading the volleyball team to a 3-1 record and the team title at the Butler Invitational, sophomore Katie Engel was named tournament MVP, while junior Stephanie Bishop was also selected to the all-tournament team.
In her first collegiate tournament, Engel emerged as a dominant outside force tallying 61 kills, 46 digs, 10 block assists and seven aces over the weekend. She committed 14 hitting errors in the four matches to record a .329 hitting percentage. Her biggest match of the tournament came in the season opener against Evansville. Engel slammed home 25 kills and had 12 digs in the five game loss for the Blue Demons. She also added 17 kills and 23 digs in DePaul's win over Butler.
Meanwhile, Bishop recovered from what head coach Dawn Dockstader termed the "worst game of her career" against Evansville to reestablish herself as the "go to" player on the team. Bishop had eight kills with 10 hitting errors in the five game loss to Evansville, but followed that with a 13 kill, zero hitting error and 17 dig performance against Cleveland State the next morning. She put her stamp on the tournament against Butler where she recorded 20 kills and 24 digs.
