Volleyball Captures Mizuno Wildcat Crown
DAVIDSON, NC- The DePaul volleyball team was named Mizuno Wildcat Tournament Champions Saturday evening, after defeating tournament host Davidson, 3-0 (30-21, 20-13, 30-20). Seniors Amy Holmes and Amie West were named to the All-Tournament team, while Janet Goreham was named the tournament MVP.
“I am proud of these women this weekend, it was a total team effort,” Head Coach Dawn Dockstader said. “The women played incredibly well as a team. The starters were exceptional and the women that came in off the bench contributed to our successful weekend.”
Mandy Moorberg and Amy Holmes led the Blue Demons. Moorberg led all players with 17 kills. Holmes added 12 putaways of her own and a .500 hitting percentage. Holmes also led the defense with 16 digs.
The Blue Demons dominated game two of the match, holding Davidson to 13 points. Moorberg notched 8 kills and Goreham added two aces.
Freshman setter, Mandi Caputo saw her first collegiate action in game three of the match and recorded 14 assists.
Goreham, the Tournament MVP netted a .425 hitting percentage and tallied 38 kills and digs, 16 total blocks and three service aces over during the Tournament.
Holmes and West were also named to the tournament roster. Holmes finished the weekend with 37 kills, 48 digs and two blocks. West averaged 15.0 assists per game and tallied 135 assists over 10 games.
The Blue Demons will be back in action next weekend at the Chicagoland Classic hosted by Loyola-Chicago. DePaul will face Illinois-Chicago Friday evening at and Northwestern and Loyola on Saturday.
