DePaul on Right Track for Blue Demon Invitational

Kalamazoo – The Blue Demons continued to improve their level of play on Saturday night against Western Michigan.  Coach Dockstader’s team lost in four (30-23, 30-23, 27-30, 30-21) but showed no signs of slowing down.

“We played stronger again tonight then we did against Michigan State,” Dockstader said.  “We exhibited a great deal of confidence as well.”

DePaul won only won two of the 11 games this weekend at the WMU Tournament but undeniably enhanced their performance with each team they faced.  “We’re finding ourselves right now.  We are, without a doubt, playing tougher with every game and that’s just what we need at present as a young team.”

Katie Engel made All-Tournament after registering 52 kills this weekend.  She had 22 in her match against Western Michigan and added seven digs.  “[Engle] led by example tonight, she was unstoppable,” Dockstader said.

Janet Cotter led the defense with 13 digs against the Spartans.  “[Cotter] played the best defensive match that I’ve ever seen her play.”

“Janet Goreham and Lara Marks both played an excellent game in the middle tonight.”  Goreham contributed 16 kills and Marks had 11 kills while both posted three blocks.

Amie West dished out 46 assists and continues to keep the offense flowing.  “She really matured today on the court.  She has started to take control of the team and that’s a big step for a young setter.  She did what we expected her to do,” Dockstader said.

“I’m genuinely pleased with our team effort.  We have the momentum we want going into next weekend.”  DePaul plays their home opener at the Blue Demon Invitational this Friday against UNLV at 7 p.m.  On Saturday they face Oregon (2 p.m.) and UW-Milwaukee (7 p.m.) to finish up the tourney.
