Green Bay - After spending nearly three hours to complete their match on Friday, the volleyball team used just over an hour to sweep UW-Green Bay (15-7, 15-4, 15-8) at the Amerihost Classic Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Demons were sparked by the play of its middle hitters as a trio of players lent their hand to the victory. Melissa Nordine had her most aggressive hitting day of the season as she logged 11 kills and added seven digs in the match. Christa Dirr played just the first game of the series and tallied five kills and two block assists.

"Mel was outstanding," said head coach Dawn Dockstader. "I thought she really exuded the type of attitude we talked about that we needed to have as a team. She and Kara [Jakusz] both showed that and it was nice to see."

Filling in for Dirr in the second and third games was sophomore Lara Marks. Marks took advantage of the chance to start the second game by recording five kills and two block assists in just one rotation of work. She also gave the Blue Demons a viable blocking threat as she slowed or altered several other attack attempts that did not result in blocks. Marks finished with six kills and three block assists in the match.

"Marks did a great job coming in off the bench," said Dockstader. "She did what we've talked about with our bench players; to watch and learn when you're not playing and she's obviously been doing that."

While the middles provided a nice change of pace, Stephanie Bishop led the team with 12 kills and 12 digs, while Jakusz dished out 38 assists.

DePaul plays Western Illinois in its final match of the tournament at 5 p.m. Saturday.
