Christy Landschoot: sports blog Sept. 9

Hello!

This past week has really flown by!  We had practice Monday through Wednesday to prepare the Golden Bear Invitational that was hosted by No. 5 California.  Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill also started on Monday, so that was very exciting for a lot of the girls on the team.  By the time Wednesday came, we all could not wait to get to California.

We took a flight really early on Thursday morning.  This was nice because then we had the whole day to spend in California before the tournament started.  There was also a time change, so it was two hours earlier in California than it was in Chicago.  We arrived at our hotel around noon, and then we went to lunch at an Italian restaurant close by.  We sat outside because it was so nice out!

After lunch we drove around a little bit.  This was the first visit to California for a lot of the girls.  I have been there once before, but it was years ago so I was happy to be back!  We drove to San Francisco, and on the way we saw Alcatraz from a distance and got to enjoy a great view of the city and mountains.  When we got to the Golden Gate Bridge the cars were parked so we could take pictures and walk around.

It was so amazing seeing the famous bridge.  I also loved looking out into the ocean.  Hopefully some day I will get to go back and spend more time in other cities of California.

That night we went to practice in Cal’s gym so we could get familiarized before we played in it the following day.  Then we went back to the hotel and went to bed early since we had a big two days ahead of us!

We played Cal-Riverside on Friday evening, and then Cal and James Madison on Saturday.  We lost to Cal-Riverside. We played great against Cal, it was the most fun I have had in a match so far this season.  Even though we lost, it was fun to play that good of a team and almost take a set from them!  Later that day we went on to beat James Madison in five sets.  We stuck around for the final match after ours and for the introduction of the all-tournament players.  Jacie Fiedler made the all-tournament team for the weekend.  Congrats Jacie!!!!!!

Now we are back in Chicago, and we have four practices before the DePaul Invitational that takes place on Friday and Saturday!!  It will be so fun to play at home, and it will be really fun to watch too!  Hope to see all of you there!  GO BLUE!
