Volleyball Falls to Northwestern
CHICAGO- The DePaul volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (30-19, 30-18, 31-29) match to Northwestern, in Saturday’s first match of the Chicagoland Classic. The Blue Demons fall to 4-2 overall, while Northwestern improves to 3-2 on the season.
The Blue Demons were never able to take control of the match, dropping the first two games 30-19, and 30-18. Following the losses Head Coach Dawn Dockstader went to her bench for help.
“I am proud of how our bench played this afternoon,” Dockstader said. “They came into the match and were able to keep us in rallies and give us points when we need them the most.”
Freshman setter, Mandi Caputo collected 15 assists while Freshman Aly Zavitz lead the Blue Demons with a .333 hitting percentage.
In game three, DePaul went down 9-14 before going on a 10-2 run. Ellen Hayes lead to come back tallying a three kills, two block assists and a service ace.
The Blue Demons held the lead at 18-17 but the Wildcats put together a 5-1 run to take control of the game and ultimately the match.
Northwestern’s Courtnie Paulis lead all players with 13 kills and a .458 hitting percentage.
DePaul will be back in action tonight against tournament host Loyola tonight at 7:30 at the Gentile Center.
