DePaul Dominates Drake & Claims Second at Bulldog Invite

DES MOINES, IOWA-  The Blue Demons finished at the Drake Invitational with a win over tournament host Drake in three games (30-28, 30-20, 30-23). DePaul claimed second place behind Louisiana Tech in the tournament.

“I am very impressed with our offense again this match.  We controlled the ball and played our game at our tempo.  Even when Drake went on a 5-0 run in game three the players stayed in the game and triumphed,” Head Coach Dawn Dockstader said.  “We carried over our momentum from this afternoon’s game in tonight’s game.  We played extremely well as a team. I am very happy with our performance this weekend.”

The Blue Demons came out in game one hungry for another victory and Drake was going to be their victim. They controlled the tempo from the first point and never looked back.    The first game saw outstanding hitting from senior Meg Griffin.  Griffin knocked down six kills and one assisted block. DePaul took game one from Drake 30-28.

DePaul won game two 30-20. The Blue Demons were able to keep a leash on the Bulldogs hitting holding them to .000 hitting percentage while the Blue Demons blew through with a .370 hitting percentage.  Setter Amie West assisted on 16 kills for the Blue Demons.

DePaul came out in game three wanting to take the match.  The outside threesome of Janet Cotter, Many Moorberg and Griffin each knocked down 4 kills apiece.  Senior Lara Marks also had three service aces for the game.

DePaul will try to hold onto a two game winning streak on Tuesday, September 16th at 7:00 p.m. when they face UIC at home
