Engel, Bishop Power Volleyball Past Valparaiso
CHICAGO -- Katie Engel and Stephanie Bishop paved the way for the DePaul volleyball team as it beat Valparaiso 15-9, 15-10, 17-15, 15-3 in the Blue Demon Invitational on Friday at the DePaul Athletic Center. With the victory, DePaul moves to 7-3 while Valparaiso drops to 2-11. Engel recorded 23 kills and 17 digs while Bishop had 16 kills and 24 digs. Kara Jakusz had another outstanding match, recording 59 assists and 17 digis. Melissa Nordine chipped in with 16 digs while Mary Anne Flanigan added 10. "We played well in spurts," DePaul head coach Dawn Dockstader said. "You have to give Valparaiso credit for coming back in the third game, but I am also proud of the way we bounced back in game four. We're 2-0 in the tournament and that is right where we wanted to be after today's action." The tournament continues all day tomorrow begining at 10:00 a.m. The Blue Demons' opening match is at 2:00 p.m. against Central Michigan. DePaul also wraps up the tournament at 7:00 p.m. against Alabama.
