Volleyball Set to Spend Weekend Giving Relief

CHICAGO – DePaul’s volleyball team was scheduled to be in New Orleans this weekend but their tournament at the University of New Orleans was cancelled due to Hurricane Katrina so the Blue Demons will spend some time this weekend raising money for a good cause.

Instead of playing on Saturday, the Blue Demons and the coaching staff will join thousands of Chicagoans for AIDS Run & Walk Chicago - a 5K event along Chicago's lakefront.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the AIDS Foundation of Chicago.  Ten percent of the money raised this weekend will assist HIV-positive survivors of Hurricane Katrina.

"Hurricane Katrina reminded us, there is more to life than volleyball," head coach Dawn Dockstader said. "I can't think of a better way for us to spend part of our day than participating in the AIDS Run Walk that will not only help others but also teach us something about ourselves as well."

The Blue Demons were scheduled to face North Carolina State, Tulane and New Orleans over the weekend.
