ST. LOUIS, MO- The DePaul volleyball team closed up a successful weekend on Saturday night, defeating Little Rock, 3-2 (25-22, 21-25, 25-14, 23-25, 15-12) to win the Saint Louis Billiken Invitational. Head coach Nadia Edwards and the team are now 5-1 on the road and 6-6 overall this season.

"Our goal as we approached this weekend was to finish the preseason on a strong note and feel prepared going into conference and we did just that. Our young women were tested throughout the weekend and were able to be resilient, head-strong and we kept our composure in key moments. We were also able to elevate our game in the 20s and close out sets.  It was truly a group effort all weekend and a great way to end the preseason," said Edwards.

Claire Anderson earned MVP honors and had a standout performance. She managed all career bests in the match vs. Little Rock with 24 kills, and 19 digs to ultimately score 25.0 points and earned her sixth double-double this season.

“Claire’s overall performance this weekend was very solid. Set by set and match by match she elevated her game play. She has a very high Volleyball IQ and was able to use it to her advantage, finding the open court and challenging the block and the defense. Her consistency and court presence really helped our team to stay competitive and position ourselves to be successful throughout the weekend." said Edwards.

Other accolades were given to Kelsey Horvath and Haley Bueser as they earned All-Tournament Team Honors. Horvath claimed a double-double with 50 assists and 15 digs, taking career bests in both categories. Bueser ended a great weekend defensively, helping the Blue Demons with 22 digs vs. Little Rock and 63 total digs over the tournament.

The Blue Demons look to build off their incredible 4-0 week. On Wednesday, Sept. 19 the Blue Demons will start BIG EAST play with a road match against Xavier at 3 p.m.
