Volleyball Falls to the Huskies

CHICAGO – DePaul (2-8) took Northern (7-3) to four games but could not pull through for the win.  The Blue Demons serve receive failed to solidify and the Huskies took over (26-30, 30-22, 30-18, 30-26).

DePaul is off to a tough streak after losing two matches prior to Northern in the Blue Demon Invitational.  “We haven’t started out strong yet,” said Coach Dockstader.  We controlled game one, we dominated it.  We had made all the adjustments from watching the tape on Northern and then what happened in games two and three is beyond me.”  We beat ourselves in those games.  We picked it up in game four but couldn’t finish.”

The root of the problem was apparent in serve and serve receive not only for DePaul but for Northern as well.

“Northern’s problems and ours were similar.  We both struggled in serve receive but we failed to take control.   It’s happened all season.  Our opponents are scoring three or four points in every one of our rotations, not just one,” said Dockstader.

The Blue Demons had 15 service errors and were aced 16 times over the course of the match.  “That’s 31 points.  That’s a game we’re essentially giving them.  This is unacceptable and this will change.  We have worked too hard to make this program one of the top teams in the conference, and we are not going to let it fall in one season.  We are too good and have way too much talent for that to happen.”

Lara Marks led the Blue Demons with 17 kills, two solo blocks and 4 block assists.  “Marks put up great offensive numbers.  She’s been strong all week and we’ve really noticed that in practice.   Marks has turned a corner and the rest of the team needs to follow her example.”

The Blue Demons resume play this weekend at the Northwestern Invitational.
