Zapryanova Earns BIG EAST Weekly Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Junior outside hitter Vesela Zapryanova was named to the weekly BIG EAST Honor Roll on Monday, September 17 after helping the Blue Demons to a 2-1 weekend at the Loyola Rambler Challenge. Zapryanova played in every set over the weekend and keyed a pair of sweeps over local foe Chicago State and USC Upstate. The Sofia, Bulgaria-native led the team in kills in two-of-three matches, finishing the weekend with 37 kills and a hit percentage of .283. In the past three weekends, Zapryanova has been nominated to All-Tournament Teams at the First State Skyhawk Invitational, Chicago Classic and Loyola Rambler Challenge. This is her first BIG EAST weekly honor since joining the Blue Demons as a transfer from Auburn before the start of the fall. For the season, Zapryanova leads the Blue Demons in kills (156), kills per set (3.32), total attempts (456) and points (179.5). She has played in all 47 sets while also ranking second in service aces (13) and third in digs (111). It is also the first BIG EAST weekly award for DePaul volleyball since Sarah Cullen was selected to the honor roll on October 13, 2008. Next up for the Blue Demons will be a trip to Louisville to begin conference play on Friday, Sept. 21. Match time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. CT. Player of the Week:
