Volleyball Beats IUPUI At Blue Demon Invitational



CHICAGO – The Blue Demons were able to avenge an earlier season loss to IUPUI this afternoon at the Blue Demon Invitational.  DePaul won the match in four-games (30-22, 30-19, 25-30, 30-23).  The Blue Demons are now 6-6 on the season while, IUPUI, falls to 5-7.

 

The Blue Demons came into today’s first match intense and ready to compete.  DePaul came out in game-one with 18 kills and knocked down a .371 hitting percentage.  Senior Lara Marks and sophomore Mandy Moorberg had five kills apiece. 

 

DePaul took the momentum of game-one into the second game.  The Blue Demons held the Jaguars to 19 points which is the eighth time this season, they have been able to hold an opponent to under 20 points in a game.  Game two saw explosive hitting from seniors Meg Griffin, Janet Cotter and Marks; each hitting over .500. Junior setter, Amie West had 16 assists for the game.

 

The Jaguars were able to steal the Blue Demon momentum in game-three, taking the lead from the first point and never looking back.  DePaul tied the game at 16 but was unable to take control and lost game-three 30-25.

 

DePaul fired back in game-four tallying 14 kills and digs.  The foursome of Cotter, Griffin, Moorberg and junior Janet Goreham each recorded three or more kills.  The Blue Demons won the game (30-23) and the match.

 

Five Blue Demons, Cotter, Griffin, Moorberg, Goreham and Marks had double digits kills.  The threesome of West, Moorberg and Amy Holmes all had double digs games for the match. Moorberg led DePaul in both categories knocking down 19 kills and 14 digs.

 

As a team the Blue Demons hit .325, 71 kills, 58 digs and nine blocks.

 

The Blue Demons will be back in action this evening when they face Tennessee (9-2) at 7:00 pm this evening at the Blue Demon Invitational.
