CHICAGO - In the final match of the DePaul Invitational, the Blue Demon volleyball team fell to Sacramento State, 3-0.  The Hornets took second place, while Western Kentucky was the weekend's champion.

The Hill Topper's Jordyn Skinner was named the weekend's MVP, while teammates Tiffany Elmore and Brittany Bowen were also voted to the all-tournament team.  From Sacramento State, Maddison Thivierge and Janelle Currey were named to the team, while Sarah Cullen was the representative from DePaul.  The senior outside hitter finished the weekend with a team-best 37 kills while contributing 29 digs.

The Blue Demons (6-7) were unable to muster any sort of offense in Saturday night's match-up against the Hornets, and were outhit 33-28.  Despite a meager team-attack percentage of .009, Sammy Geiger had an impressive showing, tallying a career-high .545 (6-0-11) clip.  Cullen paced DePaul with 12 digs, while Chelsea Thurlby added 10 of her own.

In the first game, the Blue Demons were able to keep Sacramento State (7-6) at bay, trading the lead back and forth until the 15th point.  A 5-2 Hornet run forced DePaul to take a time out.  Despite back-to-back kills from Cullen and Geiger, Sacramento State took a one-game lead after Desiree Hoyum terminated the final point with a kill.

Despite a perfect attack percentage from Kate Letcher, DePaul was unable to conquer the Hornets 14 kills on a .367 clip.  The Blue Demons kept pace with Sacramento State, building an 11-9 lead after a Letcher kill forced the opposition to spend a timeout.  Another 8-2 run late in the set behind the tricky service of Curry gave the Hornets the 2-0 advantage heading into the break.

While neither team was able to assemble a tremendous amount of offense in the third, and the difference maker came down to attack errors.  After a couple of unlucky rolls off of the net, DePaul fell behind and was never able to regain the lead, giving the Hornets the 3-0 victory.

Geiger logged a weekend attack percentage of .297 (15-4-37) to claim the team-high, in addition to her 87 assists.  Christy Landschoot and Thurlby tallied 35 and 33 digs, respectively, while Chandler Carney dominated at the net with seven total blocks.
