Jakusz Sets Conference Career Assist Record

CHICAGO -- DePaul senior setter Kara Jakusz became Conference USA's all-time leader in assists in the first game of DePaul's five-game victory over Marquette on Saturday. Jakusz delivered 49 assists in the contest surpassing Liz Eagsti's total of 5,180 during her Marquette career.

"I'm extremely proud of Kara," DePaul head coach Dawn Dockstader said. "She has worked exceptionally hard and has helped build the team to where it is today. I can't wait to see what else Kara and the team accomplish this season."

Jakusz, a native of Lemont, Ill. and former Providence standout, has distributed 341 assists on the season lending a hand in the Blue Demons 9-0 start. Her 13.12 assists per game rank second in the conference.

"I think it's nice breaking the record, but I'm more interested in accomplishing team goals," said Jakusz. "We are focused on Loyola tomorrow and on conference play."

The Blue Demons 9-0 start is the best in school history. DePaul's previous best start was a 6-0 run to open the 1990 season. The nine-match win streak is the longest winning streak since the 1991 team reeled off 11 consecutive victories.

DePaul next takes the court Tuesday, September 25 at 7:00 p.m. against Loyola at the DePaul Athletic Center.
