Volleyball Blocks Evansville

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – DePaul sophomore middle blocker Denae Gibson tallied six of the teams 10 solo blocks Friday evening in the opening match of the IPFW Invitational.  The Blue Demons swept Evansville 3-0 (30-15, 30-27, 30-25) to improve to 7-6 on the season, while Evansville falls to 6-6.

 

“I am extremely pleased with our blocking tonight,” head coach Dawn Dockstader said. “Denae had a break out performance at the net this evening, she was unstoppable.”

 

Individually, Gibson tallied seven of DePaul’s 16 total team blocks.  Ellen Hayes, Morgan Ingersoll, Amy Holmes, Janet Goreham, and Mandy Moorberg also recorded at least one block assist during the match.

 

DePaul made its presence known in the first game, holding the Purple Aces to 15 points and a negative .043 attack percentage. 

 

The Blue Demons took advantage of the Purple Aces bad passing and costly errors in games two and three to take the match.

 

“Amy Holmes and Janet had great performances again tonight,” Dockstader said.  “They carried our offense and showed great senior leadership.” 

 

Holmes and Goreham led the Blue Demon offense with double digit putaway totals, the tandem tallied 21 of the teams total 43 kills.  Goreham led all players with 16 digs.

 

The Blue Demons return to action Saturday morning, taking on future BIG EAST opponent St. John’s at 11:00 a.m.
