DePaul Drops First Match of Season to Loyola
CHICAGO -- DePaul voleyball lost a heartbreaking five-game match to Loyola 30-27, 24-30, 22-30, 30-27, 15-13 Tuesday night at the Athletic Center. The Blue Demons win streak is snapped at nine and its record now sits at 9-1.
After dropping the opener, the Blue Demons responded with an impressive 30-24 victory in the second game to even the match at 1-1. The Blue Demons followed that up with a come from behind 30-22 victory in game three. DePaul fell behind 13-6 before going on a 12-2 run propelling the Blue Demons to a 2-1 lead in the match.
In the end, Loyola was too much for DePaul to handle. The Ramblers came from behind in both games four and five to steal victories and the match. The victory evened Loyola's record at 5-5.
Senior Melissa Nordine turned in a strong performance with a team-high 21 kills, 14 digs and a .348 hitting percentage. Sophomore Lara Marks added 16 kills, five block assists and a .538 hitting percentage.
The Blue Demons jump into conference action Friday at 7:00 p.m. hosting UAB and Saturday at 7:00 p.m. hosting South Florida.
