SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Blue Demons were tripped up by Seton Hall Sunday in BIG EAST volleyball action, dropping a 3-0 (30-26, 31-29, 31-29) match at Walsh Gym.  The win improves the Pirates to 10-7 on the season and 2-2 in league play while the Blue Demons fall to 4-13 and 0-3.

 

DePaul held early leads in each of the three games but timely errors allowed the Pirates to sneak back into each game and eventually take the match.  Seton Hall's Tricia Meyers led all player with18 kills and a .571 attack percentage.

 

Game one was highlighted with 11 ties and four lead changes but the Pirates had the hot hand, hitting a match high .341 and tallied 22 kills. Seton Hall won game one 30-26.

 

The Blue Demons jumped out to a 22-14 lead in game two, but Seton Hall used a 7-0 run to pull within one.  The teams continued to trade sideouts and tied to game 29 before the Pirates finished the game with consecutive kills.

 

DePaul had its best offensive output in the third frame with senior Morgan Ingersoll and junior Aly Zavitz combining for 12 of the Blue Demons' 14 kills and hit a match-high .220.  Down 27-24 DePaul put together a 5-2 run and tied the game at 29, but Seton Hall scored the final two points to win the game and match.

 

Ingersoll accounted for 16 of DePaul's 39 kills.  Senior Ellen Hayes followed with seven kills and registered 11 digs.  Sophomore defensive specialist Maureen Zigulich also chipped in 11 digs.

 

The Blue Demons break from league play on Tuesday, October 3, traveling to UW-Green Bay for a 7:00 p.m. match. DePaul hosts its first matches of the season this weekend, welcoming Syracuse and Marquette to McGrath Arena for a pair of BIG EAST matches October 7 and 8, respectively.

Seton Hall improves to 2-0 in the all-time series…DePaul finished with a season-high 13.0 total blocks, the team's previous best was 10.0 at Valparaiso… junior Aly Zavitz had a season-high five block assist.
